What is Neurotherapy?

Neurotherapy is comprised of 2 basic tenets.

1.  EEG activity reflects mental states.
2.  The EEG activity can be trained.

It is a learned normalization of
EEG patterns."

"The evidence that EEG biofeedback can
produce significant and sustained
physiological changes was well documented
as far back as the early 1970's"
The Neurofeedback Book by Michael Thompson M.D. and
Lynda Thompson Ph.D.

Starting in the early 1970's, clinicians at
UCLA began using EEG biofeedback to
help folks 'shape' their brainwaves
through a process termed
operant
conditioning.
EEG biofeedback involves
recording brainwave information using
electrodes placed on the scalp and
displaying the waves onto a computer
screen.  As the client observes the activity
on the screen, their brain learns to change
the amplitudes of various brain wave
frequencies to achieve a predefined goal.
In this manner the client learns to
self-regulate.
